I share your misgivings about the PHARMA deal, and seriously doubt we will see any savings from it. I know the first iteration of Medicare D has been rough, and with any luck, even a flawed deal like this will improve it. At what cost elsewhere, we can only guess.
I also suspect any solution that won't be effective for another 14 or so years (until most of us now on Medicare will be dead). I hope for the best, but believe Congress needs to be very careful to establish goals and mandates for drug coverage and costs that won't be permitted to slip.
Hang tight. This deal got pharma off our backs during the healthcare reform debate. Pharma is not fooled by what will happen once healthcare reform passes and the Administration and Congress aren't fooled by pharma's deal. Once we have healthcare reform, it will be pharma's turn.
This deal was made with one Senator (Baucus) and a crook that should be in jail (Billy Tauzin a former Republican Congressman from MS). It will be voided easily and the Administration and Congress will enjoy doing it.
