I am a unemployed person (8 months now) and I am carrying COBRA for my insurance. As you may guess, it is very expensive and I no longer can afford the premiums. I have tried to apply for other higher deductible and less benefit policies and have been turned down twice now for a history of depression.
I am at my wits end trying to figure out what to do. I am 10 yrs from Medicare age and do hope to return to work as soon as something comes along as my finances are near zero.
Any help would be appreciated.
I was unemployed for about 3 months two years back. Cobra was about $800/month and unemployment paid $400/week.
I opted to go for no insurance but was told (although I did no confirm it) that if you did have a health issue you could back pay all of the Cobra payments and then be covered. This seems a bit unusual since, you would have a pre-existing illness which is usually denied.
