Covering children is a no brainer. By making sure children are covered for health care, many preventable diseases can be stopped and the future generations can avoid some serious health problems in later years. Also children are 'cheap' to insure since many are very healthy and children seldom have the debilitating chronic conditions that plague older folk.
Over the long term, covering children will actually save money since less would be spent to correct or treat health problems that could have been taken care of in childhood. I am old enough to remember the polio scares every summer and when all of us children had to be innoculated with the Salk polio vaccine back in the mid 1950s. Vaccinating all children at school not only helped eradicate polio, but it saved billions in future treatment costs from that disease. With the political climate that existed over the past eight years, I seriously such a program could have been done. I am very grateful that political climate has changed. Now if we can get every adult covered.
