My mother-in-law, age 83, has had Medicare since 1993 and also has a Blue Cross Blue Shield policy that she pays about $500/quarter for.
As far as I can tell, she's never made any changes to her coverage since she started, and she has no coverage for prescriptions. It didn't seem a big deal when I tried to convince her to make some changes a few years ago when the Part D became available, because she insisted she paid less than $20/month for her blood pressure meds.
But things have changed, and she's got new problems and new meds, and the monthly cost is closer to $200.
I'm still a few years away from Medicare (I just made the Ryan cutoff) and don't really understand how this all works. Yet.
Does anyone have any advice?
