Hi, I am in Ga. and am studying to get my BA in Psychology with an interest of substance abuse. I only have 3 classes to go. I am looking for volunteer work in that area or in the area of domestic violence which was the reason for the degree. Living in a senior community, I have come across mixed feeling about what I am doing from "Why would you possibly want to go back to school", "Are you crazy", to highly respected for taking the challenge. I did it for me so none of the negativity bothered me. It did take a lot to get them to respect my "study time", (it took over a year), but the message finally got through that studying had to come first for me until I am finished. When they really got to know me and that I didn't consider "just passing" acceptable and was disappointed if I made a low B and even sometimes a B at all as a final grade, they realized that it was more than a piece of paper that I was interested it. It was the education itself. Most of them finally got it.
