I live in West Virginia and would like to move back to Florida, but don't want to move all of my five cabinets of antiques and collectibles. I would like to find a reputable autioneer. Any ideas?
Reputable auctioneers - they sound so pretty but, smell so, bad.
Reputable would be a Southeby's or Christie's, check with antique dealers you actually trust or friend's that have also sold at auctions.
If you have to settle for a non-name auctioneer, or DO decide on any auctioneer.
Key Idea - set a minimum reserve on ANYTHING you really don't want to be unpleasantly surprised with as a selling bid.
Worse case scenario if the bidding doesn't go well - you can sell some other way or haul to Florida with you.
I'm still happy that I did that for some antiques for my camp auction - a $20 bid that had a minimum reserve of $1500 - later sold for $4500 privately. Moral - it's one thing to downsize but, being hosed while doing it is a very, very bad thing.
