In Response to RE: The Party Line by Sparkel18
My family doctor was over-cautious and insisted that we treat the temperature. However, further testing with a new pediatrician uncovered the fact that Greg had little or no gamma globulin. GB controls the body temp. He was on pheno and antibiotics while he went through a three-shot process of GB injections. It was a very scary time - he had 3 or 4 seizures all together but once the GB was corrected he was stable. We still kept him on pheno - temp or no. However, it didn't take too long for him to be okay once the tonsils were out. That first night I had rubbed him down with alcohol and given him a cool bath - got the temp way down (it was 102 at the time and I got it down to 100). The problem was that his body couldn't control this inner thermostat and it skyrocketed up to 104 - which was when he woke up screaming in a really bad seizure. Up to that point I never knew we had something like a thermostat LOL. It's very frightening to be a young and somewhat ignorant mother. Thank God for a great pediatrician at the time.
