In Response to RE: Are Christmas cards a thing of the past? by foxieblue
My mother had a special box that sat beside the front door just as we entered the livingroom. It was needlepoint and I don't know if a friend made it or bought it, but I know it had been a gift from a friend. When we came over around Christmas we could look through the cards and see who had sent one and read the messages or see the enclosed family pictures. She also kept her list in the box and checked off the names as they came in. Some of those had been friends from the Charleston Navy Yard where they lived when I was born, If she didn't get a card she would wonder how to get in touch with them to see if they were OK or what had happened. I have to wonder what she would have thought these days when you can do internet searches for people.
