I am an optimistic person but the holidays always bring sad memories, particularly during Christmas time.
I am lucky to live close to one of my daughters and her family. I always enjoy spending the holidays with them. It is fun to prepare special food in advance and shop around for gifts. But after the excitement of seeing the rest of the family, enjoying the food and admiring all the gifts, being thankful for all our blessing, usually on my way home I am overwhelmed by a sudden sadness because I miss my love ones.
One particular Christmas celebration inspired the following poem.
THE WEEPING WILLOWS
Beautiful shining green leaves dancing gently with the wind
The soft perfume of the honey suckle bushes is all around me.
There is beauty everywhere; my heart is full of joy.
I see in the distance two lonely weeping willows
Their branches dangling with the breeze, they look sad,
Nostalgia invades me suddenly, hurting my heart.
Oh, how I wish my loved ones would be here
And… the weeping willows cry with me.
