In Response to RE: What Happened? by Sparkel18
Your mention of the Sears Catalogue really brought back a specific memory for me. When I was eight and living in Oklahoma I still believed in Santa Claus. Years later my Mother told me that my dad told her that he thought I was faking it so I could get more stuff at Christmas. It sometimes makes me laugh to think that once a month in school we would have a drill with sirens where we would get under our desks in case of nuclear attack and I still truly believed that there was a sleigh with eight tiny reindeer that would land on top of my house and Santa would sneak in and bring me presents.
It was a neighbor my age who enlightened me. about Santa. I was truly surprised but took it well. He had six brothers and sisters and he told me that fro Christmas his siblings and he would get to choose ten dollars worth of toys from the Sears Catalogue. He showed me the catalogue. I was really impressed. I wondered if my parents would let me do the same thing. I went home and talked to my Dad hoping beyond all hope that he would let me do as my friend did. When I was finished I was surprised to see him smiling broadly and saying that it would be no problem at all. I picked out all the things I wanted and made sure I didn't go over ten dollars to my father's delight. In addition to my Sears haul I also received a bicycle thanks in large part to my Mother!
