Poetry in prose. I love the way you described your morning encounter with a little creature, and your compassion towards it by not hosing it down or worse, stepping on it.
We all have childhood memories of harming little creatures, not out of cruelty but due to the normal curiosity children have, I remember that at a certain time of the year my brother and I would go out at night to catch glow worms or fireflies, putting them in a glass jar and bringing them in the house to a dark room hoping they would give enough light see. My mother always told us to make sure to make holes on the lead of the jar so they would not suffocate, but as impatient children we didn't make the holes sometimes and it was very dissapointing to find them dead the next morning giving us a sad feeling.
Compassion is a wonderful quality to have. I look forward to more of your stories.
