Thank you so much for your reply. The badge that my uncle wears is exactly as you described, a rifle with a wreath on a blue background. I'm going to ask my uncle about it just to see what, if anything, he wants to tell me about it. You also described my uncle's reaction to the younger men. He seemed very proud of this badge & their response of shaking his hand.
I just hope that some WWII veterans do talk about their war experiences or leave first-hand accounts of what they went through as the day will come when they'll all be gone & we, their children, will have missed the opportunity to know about this portion of their lives.
From what you wrote, I think you too were awarded the combat infantryman badge. Are you WWII? Europe or Asia? In any case, I salute you for the sacrifices you made during your military service in order to protect our way of life.
