Long story short. My wife & I are diabled federal government employees. Wife retired under CSRS (Civil Service Retirement System), I retired under FERS (Federal Employees Retirement System). Uner the old sytem, CSRS, social security was not paid into, therfore no Medicare eligibility. Under the new system, FERS, I paid social security therfore I am covered under Medicare. So, not only am I stuck with having to pay dual insurance premiuns, my Medicare and private insurance for her (family coverage), I find that our private insurance does not cover nearly as much as Medicare for various services, DME, assistance, etc. I don't know what to do. She paid-in 35 quarters tor social securit via private employment before becaming a public servant. I contacted Medicare and essentiially all they said was "tuff luck". This is contributing to our finances being in the red every month. We're at the bottom of the well and it's about dried up. Does anybody have any information that may help? We're desperate! Thanks!
