My mom is currently living at a Skilled Nursing Facility and she is expected to be discharged in a few days; however, I am afraid for her well being as she does not follow doctor's orders and refuses to eat meals properly prepared for her. I had extended her care at this facility twice because I am afraid that she will injure herself. Is it fair of me to continue to extend her stay at this faciilty or is it possible that she will do the right thing when discharged?
My mom has been hospitalized on several occassions for failing to eat properly and complying with doctor's orders. She has fallen on several occassions because she refuses to use her walker and when home will only eat food purchased from a restaurant. She needs 24 hour care but I am not in a position to offer that and I have been told on several occassions, by home nurses, that she would do much better in an assisted/supportive environment.
I am at my wits end and I only want to provide the best for her. She really belieives that she can manage her own care if she comes home, but I am not sure of this.
Is anyone else expereincing this dilemma with a love one?
