In Response to Inventions you remember (before and after) by justbetsy
Remember those Crinoline and Horse Hair Slips that made our dress stand out, and the Cinched belts that made our waists look so small that we looked like we had great figures. if we were traveling, we would just roll them up in a stocking which kept them in good condition.
I remember a colored filter that my Father attached to our Black and White Television Set. We didn't call them TV's then they were Television Sets, and our first one was a Dumont, and the second one we owned was a Zenith. Unfortunately the colored filter colored everything wrong for as the actors moved around, they then had a weird colored faces.
I remember the Stockings advertised that wouldn't run, unfortunately they got holes in them instead. Do you remember those, or the Cigarettes that were not supposed to contain nicotine, but they had a burning smell instead. I didn't smoke so I didn't know how it tasted, but it was a fiasco.
Then there were Chocolate Cigarettes. Those I liked, and the Penny Candy Stores. Try to find one today! There were those little one inch waxed bottles of liquid, and my Liquorice sticks that I could buy for one penny or two, and of course my tootsie rolls, I could buy one for just a penny, so I would fill my bag with goodies and it felt like I had gold! Of course there were those Pez dispensers, which could be refilled!
The theater in my area had a balcony, and just like the Drive in Movie Theaters, making out there was almost a ritual as a teenager. ;-))
Then too in my teenage years, I remember my parents got me a telephone for my nedroom, and it was a Pink "Princess" telephone to match my very feminine bedroom. I hope the photo comes out well below. Scroll down to see it.
Then of course there was my first bikini. It was pink and white just like in that song! I bought it on the French Riviera, and felt like everyone would be looking at me, but there I was not a novelty, because most of the woman were wearing them! While I don't have a bad figure, still you wouldn't want to see me in one today. Remember scroll down. Shelby
