You sure he was only 16, the boy has/had talent and I hope he's going to take some more courses in Photography. Tonal quality (flesh tones) are spot on, vignetting to accentuate the subject matter - it's all there - as is his use of light playing upon the shadows.
He does show more promise than some old-pro's I worked with back in the 70's and 80's.
Have to ask did he use Film or Digital with or without photoshopping?
Did he do his own processing (if film it looks like it mighta been pushed) on developing?
If film did he do his own enlarging with dodging of the image?
He took courses in school I hope, otherwise he has natural talent for composition.
Sometimes to get the perfect shot (to me that's dang close) it might have taken me around three rolls of 36 exposures to get, 20-30 usable shots for a portfolio.
Thank you for the compilment about my sons photo. He used a little 35 mm camera with black and white 400. Had the pictures developed at Wal-Mart. No photo shop as we did not own a computer until 8 years later. He is now the Creative Director for Iconic Rockwear. In the picture of the employees he is the one in the white and green jacket. All of the posters that are done by him are all done freehand. The other two graphic designers use the designs that are purchased onlne. He did go to art school and he was voted out of all the schools in Nashville as the most promising artist. He is becoming well know for his work among the rock music sceen in Nashville. Here is the link to his company. Flo
