Was wondering if anyone in the group considered the mountian dulcimer a bluegrass insturment. I know it is considered a mountain music insturment. I started playing in January and have really enjoyed it. There are many festivals that have jams and concerts using the dulcimer especialy in Ohio,Tennessee,Kentucky.
Lap dulcimers are definetly not bluegrass instruments. I found this site that describes them as arriving in the U. S. via Scottish and Irish immigrants. http://www.songofthewood.com/mountain_dulcimers.htm I have a lap dulcimer, but got into playing fiddle (20 years now). I often get the dulcimer out for kids that visit us and have loaned it out to some adults. As long as they're tuned, they sound just great! Have fun with it, share it, write some tunes and record what you write!
