Just wanted to say that my husband and I love Bluegrass music along with many other types. We also love old time country music. I sing and play the auto harp and I am learning the bowed psaltry. It is a beautiful instrument. My husband David plays the slide guitar, acoustic guitar, keyboard, drums, trumpet, and some times my auto harp. He is a singer too but prefers to back me up on my singing with the Dobro. I have tried the Dobro and I like it but just don't practice it enough to play well. We have gone to the Wintergrass Festival in Tacoma Washington for about seven or eight years but have not been in about three years. It is a huge festival held inside at the Sheridon Hotel downtown Tacoma. My husband knows Jerry Douglas and has taken a week long class from him a few years ago. He is a great guy. Love to listen to Chesepeke and I am sorry they are no longer together. Awesome group. We love to tell people that Mike Aldridge has played my husbands Dobro and so has Jerry Douglas. Makes us feel special LOL.
So HI to every one Dava and David
Hello back to you, Dava and David
My lady Mohini and I are into an eclectic mix in music. But similar to you, bluegrass and old timey/traditional/roots/American folk is way up there on the list. That's really great about your getting personal instruction from Jerry Douglas.
I've been playing guitar seriously coming on three years now. (That's "seriously" in a manner of speaking -- since it hard to be "serious" and have so much fun playing at the same time.) I'm trying different styles of playing including blues slide guitar, and have just treated myself to a square-neck dobro for my birthday. Every couple of weeks I get together with a bluegrass jam group, and that's a first for me. Mohini just got a fiddle for Christmas, and I'm looking to find sources of inspiration and instruction to keep her enthused and playing.
We're hoping to hit the Strawberry Music Festival again this coming Memorial Day weekend at Camp Mather (right next to Yosemite), California. It's going to be my 4th year to attend, although Mo has gone quite a few times more than I have.
She has relations up your neck of the woods, and I'll make it up there soon myself.
Nice to meet you both,
