The Secret in Their Eyes
Saw this Argentine film last week and understand why it easily won the Oscar for Best Foreign Film.
The story begins with a retired civil defense lawyer who is losing sleep over a case he dealt with early in his career. A murder that was never solved, he's trying to write a book about it but realizes he has no ending to the story.
This takes him to a colleague who worked with him on the case and is now a lead advocate to delve back into the story. Thus 2 storylines evolve...one of the case and the other of our protagonist trying to retrace the threads. We bounce between present and past and start thinking we know the answer before the characters. But you'll have to think again.
Unlike a Coen brothers' film, the storylines taper together and we do get resolution. I don't know any of the actors, but they are warm and genuine, and I highly recommend this movie to all.
