In Response to Living in Nicaragua by bushamy13
I enjoyed reading your article. I'm a 61 year old widow, retired, in good health, and a professional artist --now, painting for myself mostly--because I don't have to sell my work to live, which I did in SFO when I was young.
My question is: how safe would it be for a single, older woman, to live there? I've done a lot of traveling and I know there are many places where it would NOT be safe. Also, though not exactly rich, I'm certainly not poor. One hears stories of kidnapping, esp. in Mexico (if anyone kidnapped me I'd have to pay my own ransom) and in many countries a woman alone, of ANY age, is considered fair game--India comes to mind. I was there 5 weeks with a female friend, both in our late 50's, and we were disrespected by most of the males we met, because we did not have a man to "protect" us. If I were to consider moving out of the US, I would certainly visit the country first, live there at least a month, and see how it "feels" to me."
