The only thing I don’t like about my encore career teaching ESL to immigrants is saying goodbye. Tonight my class had its farewell party. The sadness is softened by knowing how much the students gain from the class and how much they appreciate it.
As Yuan, whom I quote in my book, wrote:
I am an immigrant. When I set foot on this land, It is deeply
attracted by everything here. The people friendly, social stability
and environment good. I really love it. I was excited. but I just
like a young child. I don’t know everything. Everything need to
learn. The biggest obstacle is the language. You don’t know where
to go on the street, phone ring you cannot answer. . . . Everything
is difficult. The Civic ESL course is just as timely rain to help us.
