Magazine Omission - Cherry Trees in New Jersey
I couldn't believe that the March/April Magazine's "You First" item 1, "Smell it" - about parks with flowering cherry trees - didn't include New Jersey's Branch Brook Park!
It mentioned Dallas with 110 cherry trees, and Denver with scores of them, but 360 acre inner-city Branch Brook Park - which extends between Newark and Belleville - has over 4,000 flowering cherry trees! According to the park's website, Branch Brook has the largest collection of Japanese flowering trees in the United States. It's a very popular spot in April when the trees flower, and the park is also anchored by the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart at the south end; one of the largest gothic-style cathedrals in the country.
