I've founded a website that links talent in the community to a virtually unknown source of income (even a regularly recurring one if you want it to be): local senior facilities (nursing homes, indep. or assisted living centers, retirement homes, etc.), who often pay others to provide diversions for their residents (be it some sort of performance or an activity like arts/crafts, yoga/exercise class, a poetry or inspirational short story reading, skill demonstration (like you see on HGTV, only live)- even teaching residents how to Skype, use Facebook & send an email! You can get anywhere from $25-$250 for a 1-hr. long program (pay varies by the type of program and the facility's budget). It's something you can do most anytime: in the morning or afternoon 7 days/wk. or, at some places, weekday evenings, on a regular basis or on an occasional, as-available basis. It's a market for skills that most people don't know about but is vital and growing: some facilities pay program providers at their facilities anywhere from 7-33 times in an average month. As a former Activities Professional (in a nursing home) who's also been providing activities to senior facilities regularly since 2010, I've made close to $800/mo. just doing 3-4 programs a wk (on Tues.'s or Thurs.'s & at 2 of them on 1 Wed. night per month) at 10 'client' facilities who pay me $50-$60 to read poetry or short stories or do other presentations. It's rewarding, fun, involves minimal time investment (1 hr., max.), is flexible to most schedules, & benefits others while fueling the local economy. Now my website (seniorplaylist.com) helps others do the same. 'Work' doesn't get much better than that!
