I understand that expression came from a period when "Happy Days" was past its prime, and they were struggling to maintain ratings. They had a story line where Fonzy water skiied jumping over a shark, and it was so far-fetched, the expression came to mean when a plot goes off into the absurd trying to revive a show's popularity.
When I watched the season finale of "Bones" the other night, it too seemed to "jump the shark", with almost all the main characters just walking away from their jobs for special 1-year assignments elsewhere. I wasn't a regular viewer of "Gray's Anatomy", but I've seen clips that their season finale was also a "can you top this".
Do such over-the-top finales keep you interested, or are they too implausible for you?
