I just got an e-mail from my local PBS station, and one of the series it advertises on "Masterpiece Mystery" is "Sherlock: Series 2". I'm a real fan of the original Sherlock Holmes, in all the various movie incarnations, and the classic BBC TV series starring the late & incomparable Jeremy Brett, so I looked forward to the new Sherlock series when it first aired. But the new series doesn't just have new actors, it's been totally updated from the original late 19th century period of author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, to the modern day! Sherlock's a young guy who doesn't display a rational brilliance, so much as seem like he has ADD & ideas just pop into his head out of the blue.
How do you feel about remakes in general .. any in particular you think are at least as good as the originals, and worth the effort? Does going back to source material and "reading the book" give you a better feel, for which movie or TV version is better?
