In Response to Re: Our lives changed when we adopted our granddaughter:
You are a blessing to your granddaughter. Adoption for us was the best thing we ever did for our grandson. It gave him security with us and that we truly wanted him plus we were able to name godparents for him. Only adoption allows you to do that. At our advancing ages, we needed that security as well. You've saved another child! In Response to Re: Our lives changed when we adopted our granddaughter:
My husband, who is 71, and myself, who just turned 67 have been raising our granddaughter since she was 2 weeks old. She is 13 months old now. There is no substance abuse involved, but some emotional issues within her family. She has both parents, an 8 year old sister, and a 4 year old brother who live in Washington state. We live in Oregon. Her parents were putting her up for adoption, prior to birth. A social worker at the hospital came in after delivery and discussed with them their choice and possible future changes that could change their decision making it possible for them to keep her in the family. At that time my husband and I (I am the maternal grandmother) offered to take her for 'a while' to give them time to consider choices. So, I brought her home, and her family and we skype some, and her mom and sibs have come down twice to visit. We have now talked to an attorney about adopting her because her parents feel that is what they want and feel is the best option for her. She is the joy of our lives and there has been NO pressure on her parents to make this decision. We have had 8 adoptions in our family over the years, six of them from other countries. So this is not a new concept to us. I think about our ages, but must trust the Lord to know what he is doing by bringing her into our lives.
