I have also posted on Skeptics and Friends. Tom, Temy et al., I am a committed atheist and have been since I was 12 years old. I am not "in your face" although I was when I was younger. I grew up in MA where it was more accepted but, now live in western NC where Christianity is worn on everyone's sleeve. If someone asks, I tell but, I don't go around announcing it.
Sorry, Tom but I think "agnostic" is a little wimpy. Of course, if someone showed me direct, incontrovertable, scientific proof that God existed, I would change my mind but, that's not likely. Usually, I am tolerant of others religious beliefs if they are reasonable. I cannot and will not play nice with creationists or any other fundamentalist religion. I think they are ignorant and dangerous. As religion wanes in Europe and other developed countiries, I am hopeful that an admitted atheist president can be elected in this country during my lifetime. I'd even be happy with a Senator, Governor or Congressman.
Thanks much for joining, and for your post Windy. Actually, I do believe we have one acknowledged atheist in Congress... Rep. Pete Stark. I have mounted my own campaign for the Presidency. Yes, I have less chance of being elected than there being a Cheech & Chong co-Presidency, but it's the thought that counts, lol
