What a unique idea ! I really like your artwork, too. Do you use a sealer on the finished piece, if it hasn't been painted first?
After the Conk is dried I assess whether it needs a sealer or not. If the surface isn't smooth and white, I apply a coat of Gesso, white acrylic paint or just a coat of interior latex. After the drawing or painting I spray it with clear plastic. The Conk has to stay in a dry place. If it gets damp it will rot. It's a fungi.
