Did you know that although the U.S. Census is done every 10 years, and statistical information from it is available quickly afterwards .. now online, there is a 72 year restriction on detailed data on individuals being available! That was considered a "lifetime", so census details wouldn't be made public during a person's lifetime. In England, the restriction is 100 years.
The good news, is that the 1940 Census is just at that 72 year mark, and details from it will be available in April 2012 .. although it may take a while for the data to be indexed, for websites like Ancestry.com.
Do you do more online research, or actual fieldwork looking for documents?
