Although I don't practice Catholicism any longer, nor any religion for that matter, I find his words refreshing. He's referring to the rampant display of vulture capitalism that has stripped the US as well as other countries of opportunities. Of course there will be a segment of any society that doesn't want to work and who wants to receive handouts. However, there are many decent hard-working people who have been forced to work for very low wages as a last resort. Here in the US, many once had decent jobs with benefits, but are now facing minimum wage jobs with no benefits. The big corporations have received tax cuts and many perks as they create their jobs overseas. They're profiting very nicely as they pay people 50 cents an hour with no regulations in countries such as Bangladesh while they stash their earnings in foreign countries. The bottom line is all about how they can make the most for themselves. People here in the US often have to resort to social programs to help them survive.
