This is really a hard call. Most likely the woman was raped as she was naked. If the couple refused to let her in, what would happen if her rapist had been a violent spouse or boyfriend who followed her to the porch and tried to strangle her? Would this couple be able to let her in, assuming that her life was in danger, without the rapist pushing them aside to grab her. This would be a nightmare scenario as they're in a remote area. Perhaps they could let her in when the police arrived and then help her.
There are so many clever schemes today that catch the innocent in a trap. This woman could have had a man waiting in the dark to pull a gun on the couple. Or he could have pretended to be a friend who was coming to help her. There aren't any street lights in those areas as in the cities, so anything can happen in the dark.
Being from the city, I might have given her a blanket and perhaps let her in as I'm surrounded by neighbors. Yet, in such a remote area, I'd call the police and an ambulance, if possible, but I'd keep my door closed. Maybe this is a good reason why people need guns in rural areas.

That was very well said.. thank you.
It is always easy to second guess what someone else has done while you are sitting safely at home. There are a zillion scams out there that prey on older people (sadly) and I know I have ready over and over in our paper that it is best not to open the door to anyone that you do not know.. and people are afraid.
