Separate limits on psychiatric care are now illegal, and psyciatric care must be treated the same as any other illness, I believe.
The point is that if the physician feels that there is an urgent medical reason for a particular course of treatment, I have never known an insurance company to block it as long as the particular illness was covered under the terms of the policy. (Some things, like Viagra, are just not covered. That is understood.) Certainly I have never had that happen, although several times I have had to have my physician speak directly to a qualified medical authority (MD, and in one case board certified specialist) at the insurance company about the reason for the procedure.
