In Response to The media is mostly mean girls in Junior high School by Papa-J
There are a few sources that do a reasonably credible job of reporting the news in a fairly straightforward and relatively unbiased way. Orgainzations like AP, Reuters, and usually the BBC (unless the British government has skin in the game) can be counted on to give things a reasonably fair shake.
Unfortunately, a lot of the major newspapers (like the Chicago Tribune, the Washington Post, and even the New York Times) no longer maintain their own news-gathering and writing capacity in enbough places to insure that they can generate original coverage of major news events on their own. They've lost their economic base to such an extent that this is no longer practical.
And while on the subject of Walter Cronkite, I couldn't help but put in a plug for an important effort that he and I shared.
