This doctor is prolife, but he understands that abortion is something that shouldn't be controlled by politicians who have never had his experiences. It's not just teen-age girls who seek abortions, but also adult women, some even married with a number of children already. I've known women who've had abortions as they were in their 40's and feared having a child with disabilities. Yes, it's easy for someone sitting in a "gingerbread house", with good incomes and health benefits, to see it only from their side. Furthermore, abortions taking place after 20 weeks are mostly done for health reasons, but seldom for convenience. It's just ironic that these Repubs want to continue their health care debate when so many people can't afford insurance and health care.
I believe that girls under the age of 18 should not be allowed to buy contraception without the permission of an adult, but how many will still access it by having an older adult saying that she's the parent? Children from the best homes will have as many sexual encounters as those who are middle class and poor. For some Repubs who don't like female contraceptives, I find it very intrusive into the lives of millions of women who have used them, in various methods, for centuries. I think this is going to be their next obsession when they will allow insurance companies not to cover contraceptives. Pharmacies will be allowed to forbid selling them as some of these foolish pharmacists have tried to do already.
Yet, Repubs are so pro-life that they'll continue to fight a single payer system, and find a great deal of satisfaction in sending our young people into wars.
