Eleanor, I can't think of any other business that enjoys the liability protections that the gun industry does. And these protections are the direct result of NRA lobbying. You could easily argue that liability protection for the gun industry runs against the interest of gun owners--even if the gun explodes in your face, you can't sue the manufacturer. This particular law shows just whose side the NRA is on.
cat...I agree...I've been a proponent of allowing victims of gun violence to sue the gun manufacturers for years. We allow drug and toxic chemical manufacturers, doctors and numerous others to be held liable for what they produce...why are gun manufacturers exempt? It's because they'd have to do what all others who produce dangerous products are required to do...carry liability insurance. The GOP and NRA is desperate to save these billionaires tons of profit because they know the number of guns that have killed innocent people would shut their businesses down in a month.
