You don't have to sell me on the problem of social security not being appropriately indexed. I've been complaining about it since Clinton changed the basis for Social Security COLA and started to tax our benefit.
The $250 is a drop in the bucket. I'm fortunate and have sufficient wealth to get by on my own, with or without social security. I could even afford to pay full price for Medicare, in fact I may have to. For the many seniors who don't get COLA, and who can't afford all their Medicare co-pays, you have my sympathy.
I wish Congress had spent time to hold hearings and try to get Medicare fixed, instead of moving resources from Medicare to fund yet another entitlement. Medicare has a number of issues that Congress may one day wish to resolve. Instead, handing out a poorly planned entitlement without any real means of funding it seemed most important to them.
Lets hope the situation improves over time. My concern now is loss of medical providers. In particular the most experienced or talented may depart the field, or enter a private patient only practice.
