In Response to What and when do I start signing up for benefits?: I just turned 61 yesterday. Do I need to start sgining up or looking into benefits for retirement soon? My health is good and I intend to work for several more years. I need to work as long as I can, I did not start working until I was in my 40's and at my particular job when I was 45. I just need to make sure I get signed up for everthing in a timely fashion, so that when I do retire, everything will be set for me. If you start receiving SS any earlier than that, you will be shorted a percentage. So try to hold off until you get to be 67. Medicare can start at age 65. Max out all you can in your own retirement account - that could be at your employment or on your own witrh an IRA or Roth, |
