I just turned 61 yesterday.   Do I need to start sgining up or looking into benefits for retirement soon?  My health is good and I intend to work for several more years.  I need to work as long as I can, I did not start working until I was in my 40's and at my particular job when I was 45.  I just need to make sure I get signed up for everthing in a timely fashion, so that when I do retire, everything will be set for me.

For Social Security information visit the Social Security site.

If you have a retirement plan at your job, as I did, the person in charge of overseeing the plan can answer your questions.

Your FULL retirement age is 67.  If you start receiving SS any earlier than that, you will be shorted a percentage.  So try to hold off until you get to be 67.

Medicare can start at age 65.

Max out all you can in your own retirement account - that could be at your employment or on your own witrh an IRA or
Roth,
