Jewish Vocational Service (JVS) helps people, particularly those with barriers to employment, acquire the skills and resources to progress toward the goal of self-sufficiency. The Technology Access Center (TAC) is a community computer facility and resource library available to anyone looking to improve their job-related computer skills and search for a job.

TAC Volunteer Description:  TAC Volunteers will help empower clients by helping them become confident and self-sufficient with using computers to achieve their career goals.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work one-on-one with job seekers to build their computer skills
  • Assist clients with using TAC resources for their job search
  • Help clients navigate online job searches

Qualifications:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Patience and an open mind
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer and basic computer hardware
  • Creative problem solving skills
  • Teaching or tutoring experience is a plus

Training:  To help prepare you for your work in the TAC, JVS offers volunteers a general orientation to all of JVS’ services and programs, as well as specific training on how volunteers will provide support and assist TAC clients in their job search.

Commitment:  All TAC volunteers are asked to commit to cover one shift a week (shifts are everyday from 9am-11am, 11am-1pm, 1pm-3pm, or 3pm-5pm). Volunteers commit to a total of 8 hours per month.

Benefits:  Volunteering in the TAC is an easy and rewarding way to give back to your community and gain work experience. Your involvement will help JVS clients gain the skills they need to be competitive in the current job market.

Location:   JVS is located at 225 Bush Street, Suite 400 in San Francisco.

To Get Involved:   Visit the JVS Website and fill out a Volunteer Form by going here and clicking “Volunteer Now!”  Please indicate ‘Technology Access Center (TAC) Assistance’ as your Volunteer Interest.
