The Social Security Administration has been, for years, discriminating against seniors, especially against women. How, you ask? Well, if two people, both collecting Social Security benefits, wish to get married, one of them will have to give up his or her benefits. Or if a married couple becomes eligible for social security, the other partner can never receive benefits, as long as they stay married. Usually, it’s the woman, who often gets less each month than the man. That’s why most seniors decide to live together, unmarried, rather than give up his or her own earned benefits. Not to mention the legal and emotional ramifications of being un-married. And how can two people live on one person’s benefits, when it’s almost impossible for one person to even do so. Why should one member of the married couple give up his or her benefits, after paying in to Social Security for an entire working life?

I think you need to contact your local Social Security Administration office because what you said is NOT correct if these (2) people are of retirement age - at least not in the description that you provided - maybe there is some details that you didn't mention?

Like
How old they are.
Who's benefit are they drawing before the marriage.

If each is drawing their benefit based on their OWN work record, marriage does not affect their benefit.
This goes for men and women.
