In Response to Re: Share your fears about Social Security: Let’s be realistic about SS , Medicare and Medicaid. Besides wanting the monies paid back to these funds from all the times congress borrowed from them, how can any politician make cuts or increases to these funds if they do not have a clear picture of these funds? Politician after politician state that these funds are antiquated and out of date as well as being ripped off. Politicians have their heads in the sand because if they didn't all the problems with SS and all the other funds would be fixed! And we as a country would not be wasting the monies. Please fix the problems with all the funds! Then hopefully the politicians have a complete picture of the funds and actually know where to increase funding or where to cut funding. Right now they are closing the gate after the horse is already out. Think about it for a minute, because when our forefathers founded this great nation there weren't that many people as well as services and the infrastructure we enjoy today. So since then all politicians have done was to add their personal political bureaucracy as well as special interest bureaucracy to all our bills and laws! So here we are at this point time, in a hole from all that weight and clutter. Besides if they don’t pay back the monies to these funds, the question AARP and all Americans should be asking is where is the monies? No one American can solve this problem, it will take all Americans. Posted by LauraRep To correct you a bit, Laura - MEDICAID has always come from the General Fund - a charitable program shared by the Federal government and the States for those of all ages that need it and qualify. The monies that come from payroll deduction for SS and MEDICARE are used for these entitlement programs. "Entitlement" in this connotation meaning that those that receive it are entitled to the benefits by the law of the land. Funds are MEDICARE are pretty much used as they come in and it is in dire shape, especially certain parts of it, more than others. All of us pay into Part B for doctors and equipment - Congress tries to make up shortfalls by cutting doctor pay for services that we receive, which is a problem all its own. It is Part A of Medicare that is really having problems - the (HI) part of MEDICARE or Hospital Insurance portion. The reason is simple - as we get older, stuff happens but now we have lots of science and technology to help fix us. Those thing cost. Add to that the cost shift that hospital apply to cover the uninsured and we have escalating cost for everybody. Add to that also, the amount of money that is expended for end of life care when families want everything done for a dying loved one. So you see the cost of what we all want in our health care has escalated rapidly with these wants and needs. Funds that have been collected through the years for the so-call Social Security Trust Fund have been used to finance our national DEBT. So I guess you have to look at our willingness to get this debt under control as to whether or not Social Security will survive and thrive. It has always been just and INSURANCE to guard against extreme poverty; it was never designed to be a retirement plan. |

http://sexology.wordpress.com/2011/12/15/practice-random-kindness/ Im a therapist in CA, this clients story told to me today is a perfect illustration of how many older/disabled persons can sometimes be mistreated bcs their disability or conditions are misunderstood, and bcs someone in a physicians office is not well trained.

Posted by GailL1 These Funds or Accounts were designed for a specific purpose not a piggy bank. Besides other funds that were borrowed against such as the military fund were always paid back in full? So are you stating that it was OK for the congress to borrow the monies from SS, Medicare and Medicaid as well as other funds/programs and not pay them back? You don't rob Peter to pay Paul do you? All politicians are guilty of doing this. Besides you talk about getting our debit under control which I am sure that every American and I agrees with that statement. But! Yes there is that word again. But why wasn't this done since the founding of this great nation? Why now after the all this time? The founding fathers plan was so simple like a simple Vanilla Sundae, but they forgot the most important fact, we are human. Of course we were not satisfied with a simple treat, so we got creative and here we are with a wasted gooey mess. Look at all valuable time we wasted, monies but most importantly lives that fought and died so All American could be part of the American dream not just a few. So either we correct all our problems with funds, programs and all other economic issues starting yesterday or the alternative is to continue on down this path. Here is a clue of what could happen. What happens when you corner and beat any hungry animal, I believe it tries to survive the best way it knows how. Now take into account it's human one of the most dangerous creatures to roam this planet. We can see this in the fact that law enforcement right now can only try to maintain the law not control it like when I was growing up. Personally I go for solving the problems and issues as well as getting rid of all those layer of political, special interest, personl interest bureauracy now! But that's just me! |

In Response to Re: Share your fears about Social Security: [QUOTESo are you stating that it was OK for the congress to borrow the monies from SS, Medicare and Medicaid as well as other funds/programs and not pay them back? Posted by LauraRep[/QUOTE] No, I am just telling you that MEDICAID is not part of Social Security or Medicare. MEDICAID has always come from our Income Taxes - Federal and State - to fulfil its obligations - there has never been a fund just for MEDICAID as differentiated from Social Security & Medicare. If you want the money to come back to Social Security then we had better start getting our countries debt under control cause right now that is what it is being used for - to fund our national debt. Medicare is another matter - those funds are used as soon as they come in for the purpose for which they are collected - problem is, the collections are not matching the outlay - so it is going broke FAST. So we either have to have more coming in OR we have to modify services or payment for services - OR maybe a little of both. It is actually Medicare Plan A that has the most problems - that the (HI) or Hospital Insurance part of Medicare. |

In Response to Re: Share your fears about Social Security: Will we ever see an increase in our Social Secuirty again to help the rising cost of living. Darlene Krake Posted by 19krake66 As a matter of fact there is a COLA increase in 2012. You should have received the notice of increase. But there could be an increase to Medicare Part B for some and Part D is a bit hinky. |
