In Response to Re: Share your fears about Social Security taxation without adjustments for inflation!: My fear is the taxation of social security according to income. It is one tax, the only tax that is not adjusted for inflation, never has been and it's so unfair to begin with. We paid taxes when we paid our social security on our earnings already. When will our representatives do something to at least include "adjusting". I have written to our reps but everyone needs to do the same. Posted by medinamg I may be wrong, but if you look up info on ss, you will find that you have to be making a LOT of money to have your social security taxed....not an amount most of will ever make....check it out. |

In Response to Share your fears about Social Security: 1) In the article, Social Security Fears , many Social Security myths are addressed. What concerns you the most about Social Security? Posted by AARPMiller I researched that we will get 3.6% COLA increase in January, 2012. Also the email that is going around, just to scare people, is not true. medicare is suposed to be $108.20 in 2012 $112.10 in 2013 $117.10 in 2014. Lets hope that we will get a better COLA increase to compensate the increase in medicare. |

In Response to Re: Share your fears about Social Security: I read an article that medicare premiums will go up quite a bit for 2012 and to right around $245.00 by 2013 is this true? As we see no cost of living raise in the last 3 years it must be obvious to SS if they are raising our premiums that all things cost more. Over the years the government has borrowed from the SS fund and used it for other things and has not to date paid it back. If they would pay back the funds they borrowed, maybe the fund wouldn't be in trouble today. I think this should be of major concern.. Posted by bstjohn We will get a COLA increase of 3.6% if my research is right, starting in January. In 2012, our medicare is going up to $108.20. In 2013 it will increase to $112.10 and in 2014 it will increase to $117.10. There is an email going around to scare people, which is a lousy thing to do. Unless, something happens, these figures are right. |

In Response to Re: Share your fears about Social Security: I would like to see the source of that "fact" about $245. If that were to happen all us elderly would clog the streets until the politicians couldn't get through without running over us. And Golfnutoo, you are damn lucky we don't have a republican president - another George Bush! God help us if that should happen. Hold your breath and pray Obama is reelected, and that the next time we get a chance we will throw those obstinate and restrictive republicans out of office also! In Response to Re: Share your fears about Social Security : Posted by susanrand That email that tells us about medicare costing us $245.00 was written by some jerk that just wants to scrare us all. It is $108.10 in 2012.....your response is so right. if we get a republican President, we are screwed. Look what the GOP governors have done to Wi, Ohio and Fl. and the people of those states want to recall these governors. It strikes terror in my heart just thinking of a GOP or Tea Party president. |

Posted by bstjohn But SS is not in trouble; it has 2.6 trillion in the fund, which will last us a lot of years, then if it isn't fixed, we will get 75% of what we are getting now. then to fix it, is easy. just take the cap off of it. It is set at $106,800, so no one pays into it after that. the rich win again. if you are making a couple of million dollars, don't you think you should pay into SS? |
