The recent article " Road To Security " in our AARP magazine for August/September written by Jonathan Peterson, shows how a few easy adjustments to Social Security can preserve it forever. The Democrats and Independents are on board to preserve our Social Security, but Republican V.P. candidate Paul Ryan wants to privatize it to the highest bidder. Social Security has been a great program that we have payed into and earned to allow us to retire with dignity and we must fight to save it. Dont let Special Interest Lobbyist steal Social Security from us.Response to Re: Share your fears about Social Security: we need to do away with the cost of living freeze, till we pay bills ,meds.food, place to live, we muts decide if we can get away with meds or food,i wonder if there loved ones must do thah. IThink about what just came out of your mouth !!!! Karma is rough, you could be eating your words.. Re: Share your fears about Social Security: It seems to me that Social Security must change, and be used as a backup for those who cannot accumate enough wealth during their working life to support themselves. "insurance". A means test using gross worth would do wonders to eliminate greedy citizens who milk the system. Example: If you have a gross worth of 5 million, you could not collect social security or medicare. It makes me sick to see people living a country club lifestyle that costs over 100,000.00 dollars a year, still collecting social security because they are able to get their net worth down by hiding investments with their children, etc. We really need the republican party to get elected and help weed out these types of greedy people. With republican budget proposals only a few people will get benifits, and there will be plenty for the people who really need it. Also by reducing health care to only a few visits per person per year will save billions. How many reading this post see a doctor more now that they have medicare?. If we elect republicans, this practice will surely be eliminated. Does anyone know how much money medicare spends to have toenails done by a foot doctor? Millions. If you or a loved one cannot help take care of your toenails, suffer. Posted by wideload |

In Response to Re: Share your fears about Social Security: I read an article that medicare premiums will go up quite a bit for 2012 and to right around $245.00 by 2013 is this true? As we see no cost of living raise in the last 3 years it must be obvious to SS if they are raising our premiums that all things cost more. Over the years the government has borrowed from the SS fund and used it for other things and has not to date paid it back. If they would pay back the funds they borrowed, maybe the fund wouldn't be in trouble today. I think this should be of major concern.. Posted by bstjohn I am in Total Agreement, this fact is never brought up. Too bad someone could not research where all this money went and bring it to light in upcoming debates between the presidential candidates !!! Vicki T 924 |

Democratic Vice President Joe Biden recently said in Virginia that " Number one, I guarantee you, flat guarantee you, there will be no changes to Social Security ". It's so refreshing to hear Vice President Biden reaffirm his and President Obama's commitment to Social Security, and align themselves with the will of the vast majority of Americans, who want to strengthen and preserve Social Security. Response to Re: Share your fears about Social Security: Lindsey Graham was on Meet The Press right after Obama was elected and from what he was saying Republicans were about to mount an all out assault on Soc Security and for once it was no GOP lie. What a horrible idea and mess it would make to send more Soc Security money to Wall Street who may lose it. Then where's the money coming from to pay current beneficiares ? Remember GW Bush dropped campaigning to privatize S S when the stock market tanked. Conservatives wld privatize all public resources.but 20 yrs ago this was accomplished in Russia, & about a dozen & a half oligarchs ended up with most of the public assets. To use the current mess that Wall Street helped to make as an excuse to destroy SS and medicare is morally wrong. Posted by JANMB |
