In Response to Rep. Ryan /Medicare Social Security: Posted by Patso1 Both entitlement progams, Social Security and Medicare, have to be reformed for them to survive FOR THE LONG TERM - Medicare (Part A - Hospital Insurance) being the most endagered. There are many plans out there from the Democrats and the Republican to shore up Social Security. President Reagan had to make changes in the 1980's or you would NOT have the SS benefits today. We have to plan ahead NOW. Any changes in fund allocation would be for people who are much younger NOT those now retiring or those about to retire in the next 15 years or so. Talk to some of those who are now mid to late 30's; they have been educated in the world of investing and I can guarantee you , they find the "special account" option for part of their SS contributions very, very appealing. As I said, Medicare (Part A) is in real trouble and I think there will have to be a combination of efforts here - increased revenues and keeping cost down, with the later being the most difficult. There is a lot of experimenting going on in how to modify cost under this part of Medicare, like the "Accountable Care Organizations" under Obamacare. But the jury is still out on how well these will work and control cost. These have to be evaluated for the long term - not for just a short period of time. If you have Part B now (doctors and tests), you are paying for 25% of the cost, with the rest coming from the Medicare fund. If prices for those Part B services go up then all Medicare beneficiaries will pay more, with the higher income folks already paying more. What happens if these "high income folks" who are already paying more for Parts B & D, decide that they might do just as well self-funding in some respect and opt-out of B & D? To me, the Ryan-Wyden plan seems to replicate Medicare D (prescription drug program) which is a joint effort between the government and private insurance companies. I will have to assume that all part of the program are now being paid for - the Bush part and the Obama part. If it is and it is helping seniors to control their medication cost, then why not try this same type program within the other parts of medicare? Seems reasonable to me. If you have some "skin in the game" you tend to watch your cost & usage more. I don't know how old you or anybody else is that participate her but with 10,000 baby boomer now retiring everyday in this country, I can assure you that whatever benefits under whichever part of Medicare will begin to get slurped up very quickly. Everybody I know who has recently gone on the program are getting knee, hip, shoulders replaced or rejuvenated via PT. They are taking all their body modifying drugs to control the ailments that has come along with age or chronic conditions. So what I am trying to say, is with all this medical technology, we will be living longer and longer - in good health hopefully but maybe not. Obamacare put in a lot of front great things for Medicare beneficiaries as well the general public - these were "front loaded" NOW the real change will begin to occur as we get ready for the real meat of the progam if it survives in total or in part after the SCOTUS makes their decision. I don't know the answers but I have an open mind to solutions for the long term. |

In Response to Rep. Ryan /Medicare Social Security: I see that Rep. Paul Ryan (Republican) wants to reform Medicare and Social Security, by dismantling it. Or Privatizing it. His crazy, loona-tick idea was purposed earlier and it went no where. He isnt old enough to know anything about Medicare and Social Security! Hands off buddy on this subject! How many of you out there agree? If we vote these Republicans buffoons in , we would have to be crazy. They dont give a rats ass about anybody, especially the older people out there. So we have to vote Democratic this fall, to keep from going to the poor house. This means even people that usually vote Republican, should stop and smell the roses, and not vote party , but vote your conscience, cause you know if the Republicans get it office in Nov. 2012,it good bye Medicare and Social Security! Why do they want to pick on the old ,elderly and sick, do these people have no sense of dignity? George Bush created the spending mess , when he invaded Iraq, costing us billions of dollars in debt, then Obama had to keep this up,cause if he didnt they would call him a weak Democrat. We need to get out of Afganistan, stop building their dam roads, and let them people fend for them self! Then we could take care of our own, like we should! Its only a matter of time before Obama see's thats what needs to be done.Give him a little time.(please).But we all need to stand togather and tell the Republicans,we are tired of their little threats, and we have had enough of their sillyiness.Watching them in the debates is like watching a bunch of clowns keep getting out of the car...Its like a circus. Posted by Patso1 Just think, IF the "Individual Mandate" survives the SCOTUS review of the Health Care Reform (PPACA or better known as Obamacare), then there might be no end to what they could MANDATE - Maybe MANDATE those that are younger to establish a retirement account with some private market or savings entity. OR maybe MANDATE those that are younger to buy a long term care policy. We could use the Individual Mandate to solve lots of our money problems because it could mandate all sorts of things |

Paul Ryan's wife, Janna, has been a Lobbyist for 3 of the largest Private Healthcare Insurance Companies, who have been trying to dismantle Medicare and sabotage Obamacare. Talk about a conflict of interest. Its like Cheney and Halliburton all over again. The Ryan's and Romney could care less about our seniors, disabled or Veterans. All they care about is taking care of their corporate billionaire friends. The wealthy dont want Social Security or Medicare because they dont need it and dont care enough about us to pay their fair share to maintain it for those of us who need it to survive with dignity. President Obama is fighting to keep it, like FDR would be, If he were still around. Romney and Ryan's plan is simple- Give More To Those Who Dont Need It and Less To Those Who Do.Response to Re: Rep. Ryan /Medicare Social Security: there would be plenty of money for SS if they just lifted the cap on the amount of income that it is paid on. The problem is, Romney/Ryan won't want to consider that because it would be taking money from their rich friends
