I wanted to let you know about a new petition I created on We the People, a new feature on WhiteHouse.gov, and ask for your support. The title is "Urge you to protect the current method of calculating the annual Social Security cost-of-living adjustment (COLA)." This is of critical importance to all of us. The link to get to the site (you may have to cut and paste to your browser is: http://wh.gov/XXf6 |

In Response to Protect our Social Security cost of living COLA adjustment: I Proposals to substitute a “chained CPI” calculation for the current COLA index are inaccurately characterized as a “technical adjustment” and will substantially reduce the current and future benefits of the millions of Americans receiving Social Security. This change is actively being considered in the budget negotiations. Posted by chuckp123 This suggestion was introduced last summer during the debt deal debate. It is explained at this link: AARP: 07/21/2011 - Social Security: Lower COLAs on the Table - New inflation measure could shrink checks Economist introduced the new way to figure the COLA based on a calculation which contains better reliability on how folks react to inflation. Something goes up that you buy and you change to something cheaper. Do you not trust government to make the best decisions for making the SS system stronger and longer lasting? It is their job to make the best decision. If Reagan and Speaker O'Neil had not worked out problems with SS back in the 80's I doubt we would still be sending out as good of benefits as we do today. For 2013, the COLA is 1.7% but that is BEFORE the Medicare Part B premium is calculated, which will reduce the COLA increase for 2013 if it is more than this year. The COLA calculation also affects more than just SS - Veteran & Military benefits are also tied to to the same calculation and I think Federal employees too. So it does need to be as accurate as economist can calculate it cause it is quite a chunk of money when even low inflation is calculated. |

President Reagan cared equally about all Americans and would not have anything to do with todays Tea Party led Republican leadership and their Plutocratic views. President Reagan's Budget Director David Stockman recently said President Reagan would not have allowed Boehner, Cantor and todays republican leadership to behave like they have during the past 4 years. President Reagan's Tax Rates is what President Obama wants to go back to , but todays Republicans want more breaks for the wealthy on the struggling backs of our seniors, disabled and Veterans. No there is no Speaker of the House like Tip Oneill anymore, instead we have Plutocrat Boehner.Response to Re: Protect our Social Security cost of living COLA adjustment: In Response to Protect our Social Security cost of living COLA adjustment : This suggestion was introduced last summer during the debt deal debate.
