I am a retired American livimg in Thailand. The reason is that I am married to a Thai woman, and have a Thai family here in Bangkok.For that reason I need to contact the Social Security for information and documents required by the Thai government so that I can continue to live here in Bangkok as a foriegn retiree living in Bangkok. I would just like to say that the access to www.ssa.gov (the social security website) is almost impossible from here in Bangkok, Thailand. Other American retirees living outside the U.S. have told me that it is the same for them. For every 100 attempts to log in I am lucky if I manage to get 5 that work.. And when I do manage to get to the website, I often find it impossible to continue on to the particular topic I want to go to. Now I am not a "novice" in communications by computer...in fact I worked for the last 25 years a communications technician for a civilan contractor company providing communications for the U.S. military. So I have a lot of experience with computers and communications. My question is this: If I can go online anywhere in the world, sign in to my U.S. bank account with my password, and transfer funds from that bank to my bank in Thailand in a few minutes...then why can't I contact the Social Security and download a simple verification of my Social Security earnings as REQUIRED by the Thai immigration authorities to allow me to remain as a foriegner retired and living in Thailand. Frankly, I think that is because the Social Security Administration has not yet realised that it is not 1950 or 1980. This is 2011, and you can get just about anywhere online --- except the Social Security Administation it seems. The SSA needs to wake up and see the light. That is why my user name here is stuckinBKK ---- standing for stuck in Bangkok. And for those of you do read this ... please do let my complaint be known to the SSA . There service for American retirees living outside the U.S. is terrible. |
