How to Fix Social Security

I’m 65, a member of AARP, and I’m not really worried that the government will do anything to my retirement benefits. But, I am worried for my children and grandchildren!
I’m a software engineer, so I’m used to analyzing problems and proposing solutions. I’m also a website designer and even though I still can’t believe it, I was able to get the domain name http://www.howtofixsocialsecurity.com.
As I see it, the main problem is that we are all living longer than our parents did. That means that the Social Security system is giving out more benefits checks each generation for the same number of FICA payments. My proposed solution is to change the system from a fixed age system to a fixed ratio system. Your full retirement check is not based on working to a certain age, but it would be based on the ratio of the number of months that you have worked and paid the social security tax compared to the number of months on average, based on your life expectancy, that you will receive benefit checks.
Please take some time and look at the website. I’d love to hear your comments and suggestions. And, if you do like the concept, the biggest suggestion that I’m looking for is how do I get this idea in front of the right people!
So, as a poll question, do you think this idea has any merit or potential?

In Response to Re: How to Fix Social Security: I posted a way to fix social security and Medicare in the members idea area. But not many people have read it, but that is the only way to fix this problem because our elected officals don't care about it why? Because they don't need it they are set for life and we pay for it while they screw us. People we need to wake up and see what's really going on. Read my post in the members Idea area of AARP. Also read the comments. If you agree tell your friends to vote for it. Did you know our congress has passed a bill to make sure no one can change their benefits? Did you know there kids don't have to pay back student loans. How about them not being able to be charged with sexual harassment so now the are above the laws we all have to live by. Wake up and check this out for yourself don't take my word for it. Posted by ltjordansr I suggest that you take into your calculation the contribution of those many individuals that paid into the system many, many years and then died before they could even apply for their "social security benefit", please note I said benefit, not entitlement. |
