Assuming the numbers on p. 57 of the Sept/Oct 2011 issue of the AARP Magazine are correct, I would propose the following 5 point plan to fix Social Security:
1)  Remove the cap on income subject to FICA tax
2)  Raise the age for base benefits (formerly known as retirement age) to 70
3)  Reduce the FICA tax rate for Social Security by one-half of the overage in gap closure produced by (1) and (2)
4)  Increase benefits by the other half of the overage in gap closure produced by (1) and (2) (with some restructure to reflect (1) fairly)
5)  Remove Social Security from the federal budget and set about dealing with the REAL deficit!

as if the Republicans  or tea party would go for that!

 2) Raise the age for base benefits (formerly known as retirement age) to 70

How many employers would keep a person employed at that age? Just look at the unemployment rate of people over 50!

5) Remove Social Security from the federal budget and set about dealing with the REAL deficit!

The politicians love playing games with this fund they would never change it unless they eliminate it and that would only happen if the Republicans and tea party people gets their hands on it!
