Hi.  I am writing this to find other victims due to the advancement of technology and the aging mind  and changes in businesses stemming from a poor and fluctuating economy.

I, myself, felt victimized when I saw a charge for a fitness center on my credit card, Citibank mastercard and thought that it was an error.  I called the credit card customer service phone number on the back of my card and found an ear to talk to on the other end, the result of the phone call was to sit and wait for a week to receive a form from the credit card company which was to report fraud on the account.  The account was closed the day of the phone call, but the credit card company reopened another credit card account for me that same day.

I filled in the information on the form as soon as I received it, I mailed it back to the credit card company, at  a P.O. box in SD.  I then received a copy of a form that had been mailed from the credit card company to the fitness center business office and a typed response from the fitness center saying that they had bought up some of the former BALLYS TOTAL FITNESS and now they are charging me a monthly membership fee.  I was very confused!  BALLY was a fitness center that I had formerly belonged to, however, I was able to pay as I went with them.  It seemed that now, my credit card had somehow developed a set of legs and was like a blank check to be filled in by any one that got a hold of it!!!!

I felt very violated and did call my credit card company and asked how could this be possible that my credit card was now in the hands of a company that bought up another companies members?

Anyhow, I'm wondering if others have had this happen to them.   How do you cope with it?  Should there be some way of legally stopping these companies from passing private personal information of their members/customers from one business to another?

Thank you for your response!

I have had a credit card with a company for over twenty years and now I got a copy of my credit report and found that that card is not listed on the report.  I called the credit card company and they say that it's because the account was recently closed (because of reported fraud) and another one was opened.  The new account needs a couple of months before it will be posted on the credit report?
