Norrgard, You have to be active and contact your representatives in Congress. Tell them how you depend on Social Security with a COLA . You paid into S.S. and now you need it to allow you to survive with dignity, just like it was intended to do. Unfortunately we have to stand up and shout to our leaders in Congress these days, in order to save what we have already paid for and earned.Response to Re: Cola raise???: This would be a complete disaster for those living on SS. The aspect of changing from COLA would cause more of us seniors to live in poverty! If anything the COLA should be giving an additional increase to cover all the utilities, food, health care costs that we are faced with. I'd like to see Congress live on what we have. Its time for them to wake up to reality! A very concerned senior. Posted by norrgard321 |

In Response to Re: Cola raise???: I would be willing to have my social security check reduced by a few dollars a month if it means we can preserve the Social Security system... Posted by rbextract I'm not because it is the major source of my income. Perhaps, you can afford it! And why should I worry about your kids?

In Response to Cola raise???: [QUOTE]Hi, Does anyone know how to figure out how to calculate the amount when they give us the COLA raises???? Posted by cc49[/QUOT The real questions should be (1) what is the specific formula the government uses to calculate the existing COLA, and (2) what specifc formula will they use for the Chained COLA. I know the government is suggesting we switch from beef to chicken, but if we already had to switch to chicken, what will I switch to next? Cat food? I know my cat isn't going ton like that and I don't know what he will eat instead? Mice? If you don't have money for food now, what are you supposed to do next. And Members of Congress receive much more that $200,000 per year in comnpensation, benefits, and perks. Nobody has any idea what Obama and his wife spend bin taxpayer money for personal use, but it is in the millions.

In Response to Cola raise???: Hi, Does anyone know how to figure out how to calculate the amount when they give us the COLA raises???? Posted by cc49 COLA is currently calculated using an old formula for the cost of living that sums the rates of increase in several key cost sectors, like foods, energy, housing etc. However, economists now think of this as inaccurate and an overestimate. One of the many proposals for saving federal expendatures is to change all the entitlements and federal pay rates to a "chained CPI", which includes the likely changes in behavior of consumers as costs go up. So it's a few points less, but makes a big budgetary impact. |
