I believe its a 1.7% raise , so I would just multiply your current benefit times 1.7% and you should arrive at your new benefit amount. Every little bit helps, huh ? Response to Cola raise???:

One can only hope that when the senate/ house give themselves a cola raise, they use the same formula. Seems lie who ever came up with this percentage doesn't drive a car or eat.

Remember the Medicare Part B premium increase for 2013 has not yet been announced so whatever that turns out to be will reduce your net increase.  It should be announced in November.

Your November Bulletin suggested to go to action.aarp.org/cola.
However, it didn't bring me to that website.
Can you give me a website where I can find info and respond to it?

I would be willing to have my social security check reduced by a few dollars a month if it means we can preserve the Social Security system...

Hopefully you wont have to, if we make a few minor adjustments to the cap or COLA formula. It will also greatly help, If we go back to the Clinton or Reagan era tax rates and stop fighting unnecessary Wars.
I believe Republican Speaker Boehner was being sincere today, when he told our President that he may be willing to work across the aisle and make  compromises. I hope the stumbling block wont be Eric Cantor and Paul Ryan going forward.Response to Re: Cola raise???:

Congress should keep their hands off my social security money and definitely increase the COLA  every year.  The cola is not enough to subsist on with todays  inflating prices. As to social security checks; remember THIS IS MY MONEY--I WORKED 50 YRS AND SAVED THIS MONEY. KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF. THIS IS NOT ENTITLEMENT, MITT ROMNEY---I EARNED THIS MONEY, NOBODY GAVE IT TO ME FOR FREE---- AS LONG AS THERE ARE WORKING PEOPLE THERE WILL ALWAYS BE SOCIAL SECUITY.  BECAUSE THESE PEOPLE TODAY ARE MAKING 6 FIGURE SALARIES, SO THEY CONTRIBUTE MORE. SO IT WILL NEVER  RUN  OUT OF FUNDS.  THE COLA  MUST BE RAISED EVERY YEAR. FOR THE PAST 2 YRS WHEN WE DID NOT GET IT, I HAD TO GIVE UP MEDICATIONS AND FOOD--I CANNOT PAY THE RENT AND ALL THOSE OTHER THINGS--BUT I DEFINITELY NEED A ROOF OVER MY HEAD.

Barbara, I couldn't agree more. The cola formula should be adjusted to benefit our recipients, so we can keep up with inflation. Raising the cap to include contributions of workers making above today's limit alone will almost close the gap alone. There is NO excuse for not preserving Social Security, so our seniors can survive with dignity !!!Response to Re: Cola raise???:

Instead of taking out the %   they need to add to it.  We were without any cola for 2 years.   We need to have that reinstalled to us.  We worked for our money.    Let those that make millions pay more.   They have the extra.  WE don't.    We need to eat too and have meds,    Several that make millions could pay us.
